We’re already in June and pretty soon in just under a blink it’s going to be that time of year that we specially celebrate our dads. June 17^th is Fathers Day! In cultures around the world, fathers are heralded as the heads of families. For a long time, they were primary breadwinners but even when that changed, fathers still held an integral role in the development of families everywhere.

The role of the father is one that is often seen as protective, vigilant, stern and usually the hand of justice within the family dynamic. Fathers are projected as strong men who take care of their families, honor their responsibilities and generally maintain a sense of order and safety in the home.

In our culture today, we read a lot of stories and even know some personally firsthand of fathers who end up being ne’er do wells. A good dad never runs from his responsibility and certainly doesn’t hold his love for his family at arm’s length. Our society is full of fathers who openly love their children, men who are fair and compassionate at the same time and generally figures of integrity and constancy.
